Robert Forgan was one of the finest clubmakers of the hickory era.  He trained under his uncle Hugh Philp, taking over the workshop in 1856.  He was appointed clubmaker to H.R.H. the Prince of Wales in 1863, and began using the Prince of Wales plumes as his stamp.  The stamp changed to a crown in 1901 when King Edward VII was crowned.
